Holy Cross School, Miramar, 1940.

In 1930 Sisters of Mercy first began teaching children living in Miramar in the St Columban’s Hall.

In 1932 the Sisters were invited to teach, along with Marist Brothers, at Holy Cross School.

At first the Sisters who taught at Holy Cross had to walk to school from their convent in Seatoun. They would walk over the hills every day, in all weather, carrying their books. Later a car was bought for the Sisters so they could drive to and from school each day.

The Sisters travelled from Seatoun until a house was bought for the Sisters, so they were able to set up a new community in Miramar.
